Posted: Monday, July 14, 2008 Recensione Darkest Night Ever su Ver Sacrum! da VerSacrum : Spectrum-X: Darkest night ever (CD - Darkest Labyrinth, 2008). Gli Spectrum-X sono una delle band più bizzarre e intriganti che mi sia capitato di scoprire negli ultimi mesi, e più precisamente da quando, a fine 2007, ho avuto modo di assistere a un loro show (a proposito, se vengono a suonare dalle vostre parti vi consiglio di non perderveli!) e di ascoltare l'ottimo debut intitolato Tea party with zombies. La formazione capitanata da CandyBones e Nullifer ha davvero tanto da dire e possiede quella marcia in più (non solo una, per la verità…) che la rende diversa dalla maggior parte dei gruppi che affollano la scena italiana, vedi ad esempio l'originalità del sound proposto o la cura maniacale del look. Proprio quest'ultima caratteristica li accomuna moltissimo ai rappresentanti della scena Visual Kei, mentre a livello musicale si parla di un mix (peraltro ben riuscito) tra sonorità imparentate con il black/death più malefico e una valanga di beats, che danno corpo a un electro-industrial-metal dalle tinte oscure ma maledettamente catchy e persuasivo. Il salto di qualità tra il nuovo Darkest night ever e il disco precedente è notevole, non solo per quanto riguarda l'aspetto compositivo ma anche e soprattutto per ciò che concerne la produzione, affidata alla band stessa e a Kiwamu dei Blood, che tra l'altro ha suonato la chitarra in tutti i brani. La cadenza ritmica dei pezzi inclusi è così particolare che, pur nella loro pesantezza e corrosività, dopo alcuni ascolti ti entrano in testa e ti sembrano la cosa più familiare del mondo: provate a sentire un paio di volte "Gnomes bones", "Trick or treat" e "Aloisa" (nei quali le spettrali vocals di Nullifer si alternano con quelle, ben più soavi, di CandyBones…), oppure il delirante "Unsane" (fantastiche le parti di tastiera e la provvidenziale doppia cassa che rende il tutto splendidamente caotico e dinamico), e vi renderete conto che con gli Spectrum-X c'è davvero da "farsi del male" se si è appassionati di quelle sonorità che si rifanno al metal ma allo stesso tempo lo "corrompono" e stravolgono, trasformandolo in qualcosa di totalmente nuovo. Ho l'impressione che all'estero ce li invidieranno di brutto, e faranno bene perché il potenziale di questo gruppo non è certo roba da poco!
